Answers to the questions we get most. If yours isn't here, write to us — the address is at the bottom, and a real person reads it.

Your data

I got a new phone. How do I move my binder across?

On the old phone: Settings → Backup & restore → Back up now. Android's share sheet opens — send the file somewhere you can reach from the new phone: Drive, email it to yourself, a USB drive. On the new phone, install Simply Auto and use Restore from a backup file.

Do this before you wipe the old phone. Android's own phone-to-phone transfer does not carry Simply Auto's data — the app opts out of it deliberately, so that the backup file is the one route and it always works. Restoring keeps what is already on the phone and skips duplicates; nothing is overwritten.

Is the backup file private?

It is not encrypted. Anyone who opens it can read everything in it, including the photos and documents you attached. Keep it somewhere only you can reach.

I uninstalled the app. Can you get my data back?

No, and we want to be straight about why: we never had it. Nothing you enter is sent to us. When the app is uninstalled, Android deletes its storage. There is no copy anywhere for us to restore from.

If you have a backup file, restoring it will bring everything back.

Maintenance and due dates

Where do the intervals come from?

From you. The standard items (oil, tire rotation, filters, brake fluid and so on) come with starting-point intervals so you don't have to type everything, but the app does not know your specific vehicle and never looks anything up. Your owner's manual has the right numbers — set them once per item and the app keeps the schedule from there.

The due date looks wrong.

Due dates are estimated from your odometer readings, so the first thing to check is Update odometer on the vehicle. If you know exactly when something is next due, open the item and use Adjust due — it replaces the estimate without creating a service record, and the interval keeps future recurrences on schedule.

I removed a maintenance item. Did I lose its history?

No. Removing an item stops tracking it; every service you logged against it stays in History.

Reminders

A reminder didn't arrive.

Almost always battery optimisation. Android is allowed to hold back background work to save power, and some manufacturers are far more aggressive than others.

Check: Android Settings → Apps → Simply Auto → Battery and choose Unrestricted; and → Notifications to confirm they are allowed. If you declined the notification prompt when you first opened the app, that is where to turn it back on.

Please also don't rely on a reminder as the only safeguard for anything with a safety consequence.

Documents and photos

How do I add a receipt or a document?

When logging a service, use Receipt photo or Attach PDF and it is saved with that record. For titles, registrations, insurance cards and manuals, open the vehicle's Documents and choose New document — from the camera, from your photos, or a PDF file. Use Rotate 90° if a photo comes in sideways.

The camera didn't open.

Simply Auto hands off to your phone's own camera app and needs no camera permission of its own. If nothing opens, check that a camera app is installed and enabled, then try again.

Premium and purchases

What does Premium include?

Unlimited vehicles, no advertising, and PDF / CSV report export. It is a one-time purchase — not a subscription, and it does not renew. The free binder holds one vehicle with every other feature, and backup and restore are free for everyone; getting your own data out should never be behind a price.

I paid, but the app still shows ads.

Open Settings → Restore purchase. That re-checks with Google Play and unlocks it. Make sure the phone is signed in to the same Google account you paid with.

If you paid by a method that needs approval — a cash top-up, or a family "ask to buy" request — Play may still be holding the purchase. Those can take a couple of days to clear, and the app will unlock on its own once they do. Please don't buy a second time.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Google Play, not by us — we have no way to issue one. Use Google's refund process. If something in the app is broken, tell us first; we would rather fix it.

Ads and privacy

How do I change my ad consent choice?

Settings → Ad preferences. That row only appears where the choice applies — the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Everywhere else there is no consent form to reopen. You can also reset your Advertising ID in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.

Does the app send my binder anywhere?

No. The app makes no network request of its own — the internet permission exists for the ad banner and for Google Play purchases, and nothing else. The only ways anything leaves your phone are ones you start yourself: a backup, a report, or a document you choose to share. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.

Please tell us what you expected to happen and what happened instead, plus your phone model and the app version (shown in Settings). If you can include a screenshot, even better.
